Singapore's Mitch "The Dragon" Chilson Wins Superfight Championship in 2nd Night of Inaugural Resorts World Sentosa Martial Combat
Posted on : 13 May 2010

The second night of Asia's biggest Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Championship drew to a successful close as an almost capacity crowd at the Compass Ballroom, Resorts World Sentosa, witnessed local boy Mitch Chilson take the Superfight Championship Belt.

The event, presented by ESPN STAR Sports and Resorts World Sentosa, saw 10 world-class mixed martial arts fighters do battle over five fights, culminating in the final showdown between Chilson and Taiwanese fighter Zhang Jing Xong.

Both fighters stepped into the ring with the crowd in full chorus, rooting for local boy Chilson.

The first bout saw Zhang trying to peg Chilson back with a couple of kicks but referee, Steve Perceval, stopped the fight when the overzealous Taiwanese kneed Chilson in the groin.

Chilson dominated proceedings in the second and third bouts with his solid ground moves as Zhang valiantly defended himself.

With the fervent crowd on their feet, Chilson went for the kill in the fourth round and finally nailed Zhang with a knockout punch with 2 min 26 sec left on the clock to send his supporters into a wild frenzy.

Said Chilson of his win, "I feel fantastic. I trained incredibly hard for this fight with plenty of jiu-jitsu and muay thai and it paid off. Zhang was as tough as hell and extraordinarily strong. I held him in three arm bars and he was still standing! All I could hear was my coach saying "right hand, right hand!" and it proved to be prophetic as I knocked Zhang out with a right hook."

The night kicked off with Filipino fighter, Kevin "The Silencer" Belingon taking on Ngoo "The Indomitable" Ditty from Thailand. The crowd was up for it and with only 02 min 51 sec on the clock in the first round, Belingon was awarded a technical knockout having rained blow after blow while pinning a helpless Ditty on the ground.

Yang "The Protege" Yu Cun and Joon Soo Lim "Korean Bear" kept the action flowing in the second fight of the night with the South Korean emerging victorious through an arm-bar submission in the first bout with about one minute left on the clock.

David Gardner stepped into the cage to take on feisty South Korean fighter Doo Jae Jung in the third fight of the night and both took it all the way down to the wire in three rounds. Doo managed to inflict damage on Gardner with a couple of huge blows to the American's face but alas, it was not to be as the judges scored the fight (29-27, 30-27) in favour of "The Fox".

In the fourth fight of the evening, Zhang Jian Jun lived up to his moniker of "The Destroyer" when he wasted no time in demolishing his opponent, Abhijeet Petkar by way of submission in the first round of their fight when he executed a spectacular Kimura move to force his opponent to tap-out and concede the fight.

Fans can look forward to more fights over the next five months as the series gathers some of the world's top professional contenders in an adrenaline-pumping series of twelve events comprising 60 action-packed fights from May to October 2010.

Resorts World Sentosa Martial Combat is the only MMA event officially recognized and sanctioned by two of the world's leading governing bodies in the martial arts scene, the Asian Mixed Martial Arts Federation (AMMAF) and the World Martial Arts Federation of Singapore.
